The RealLife English Podcast

In this podcast, Ethan, Andrea, and Justin—your American and British Fluency Coaches will take you beyond the classroom and help you live, learn, and SPEAK English in the real world through fun, natural, conversational lessons that will rapidly teach you: - To understand fast-speaking natives - The vocabulary, phrasal verbs, idioms, and slang that you actually need to know - Native pronunciation and connected speech (how we natives cut and connect our words in a predictable way) - American and British English and their differences Above all, we'll help you develop the mindset, the method, and the mastery to live your English in the real world!

Leo Gomez, founder of Learn your English (.net), is an ESL teacher, trainer and entrepreneur. He has more than 20 years of teaching experience and has taught English in six different countries. Leo believes that individuals develop through reflection, experimentation and learning from their mistakes. Amazingly, he hasn't used the course book to teach in more than seven years. Leo emigrated from Brazil to Canada, where he started his business called Learn Your English. Through courses, masterclasses and two podcasts, Leo and his business partners work to build a language community for both instructors and learners to become more autonomous and effective.

I had a great time talking to Leo - at moments I felt so engrossed in the conversation that I forgot we were recording it. We have a lot in common. We started out discussing philosophy, journaling and meditation. Then we talked about Leo's journey to achieve native-level English. We also touched on the challenges to teaching English as a non-native in Canada, and how he overcame them. He shared all sorts of insights for English learners, like "the seven C's of English learning", and the role of purpose and learning a language. That's not all, Leo, also gave tips for teachers, and how you can stop depending on a textbook. We got into learner autonomy, why this is so important, and how teachers can promote it. We’re super excited to announce that we have publicly launched much anticipated RealLife English Podcast and Speaking App, which will give dedicated learners, just like you, the opportunity to listen to podcasts, not only with audio and transcripts, but also to speak English with other learners from around the world, at the touch of a button, for free.
